If you decide to have a guide in Angkor, book one for whom you've found recommendations online. Not all guides are the same! Ours spent most of his time telling us how long and/or high everything was. He was quite sweet, but we honestly would have been better off without him.
Take a mid-day break from touring Angkor. It gets very hot, the sun is very strong, and you'll have better memories if you arne't bordering on heat stroke. A pool is a good place to take this break!
Take a break from buying scarves in the tourist section of the Old Market and enjoy a spring roll in the food section.
Head into town in the evening for an excellent dinner at the Khmer House. (Right next to the Khmer Kitchen.)

Visit the Land Mine Museum.
Stay on the outskirts of town.
Visit Bantrey Srei.
Stay longer than I did! There is so much to see and enjoy.
